Category Overview

What VSPC Flooring Actually Is — and Why It Exists as a Category

VSPC stands for veneer stone polymer composite. The structure is straightforward: a sliced natural wood veneer face — typically 0.6mm oak, walnut, or ash — bonded to a rigid SPC core with a pre-attached IXPE or EVA underlayment.

The result is a plank that looks and feels like engineered hardwood when you run your hand across it, but behaves like SPC under moisture, temperature swings, and subfloor imperfections.

Why This Category Exists

The category exists because of a gap in the market that we've watched widen over the past five years. Standard SPC with printed décor film has gotten very good — EIR textures fool most eyes at arm's length. But it doesn't fool fingertips, and it doesn't fool the segment of end users willing to pay more for real wood grain.

Engineered hardwood fills that gap aesthetically, but it brings moisture sensitivity, expansion issues, and higher claim rates in humid climates or below-grade installations. VSPC flooring sits between those two worlds: genuine wood surface, SPC stability underneath.

What This Means for Your Margin

For your business, that positioning translates directly into margin. You can stock a product that commands engineered-hardwood pricing — because the surface is real wood — while carrying SPC-level risk on warranty claims. Your downstream customers get the premium look they want. You avoid the moisture-related callbacks that eat into hardwood margins.

Manufacturing Process

How We Build a VSPC Plank — From Core Extrusion to Veneer Bonding

The SPC core comes off our calender lines at controlled temperature and pressure — same rigid core technology we run across all our SPC products, with calcium carbonate and PVC resin ratios tuned for dimensional stability.

Step 1

SPC Core Extrusion

Core extrusion runs at controlled temperature and pressure on our calender lines. Calcium carbonate and PVC resin ratios are tuned for dimensional stability. We hold ±0.1mm thickness tolerance across the plank width — which matters when your installer is clicking together a 300 sqm hotel lobby and can't afford lippage between planks.

Step 2

Veneer Lamination with PUR Adhesive

Instead of hot-pressing a printed décor film onto the core, we bond a sliced natural wood veneer using a moisture-cured PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive system. PUR is the critical detail here — it cross-links after application, creating a bond that won't delaminate under heat or humidity the way standard hot-melt adhesives can.

Why we switched to PUR exclusively in 2021: Testing showed measurably better peel strength on accelerated aging tests. Hot-melt worked fine in climate-controlled showrooms, but we were seeing edge-lift reports from buyers in tropical markets. PUR solved it.

Step 3

UV Coating Line (6–8 Coats)

After veneer bonding, the plank goes through our UV coating line — 6 to 8 coats of scratch-resistant finish, each cured individually under UV lamps. The coating serves two purposes: it protects the natural wood surface from wear and staining, and it seals the veneer against moisture penetration from above.

The finished surface passes EN 660-2 abrasion testing at levels that keep warranty claims off your desk, even in light commercial traffic.

Step 4

Click-Lock Profile Milling

Once coated, planks are milled to our 5G click-lock profile on all four edges. The profile geometry is cut to tolerances that allow a single installer to float a large area without adhesive — and without the locking tabs cracking under lateral load. We run profile gauges every 30 minutes on the milling line.

Step 5

Visual Grading & QC Inspection

Every plank passes a visual grading station before boxing. Graders check for veneer delamination at edges, coating voids, and colour consistency within the batch. Planks that don't meet grade are pulled — they don't get downgraded into your order. We run a defect rate target below 0.3% per production run.

Volume SKU

Oak Natural VSPC — The Volume SKU

Oak is the species that moves. Across our VSPC orders, oak natural accounts for the majority of volume, and there's a straightforward reason: oak grain reads as premium across every major market — North America, Europe, Oceania, Middle East — without polarizing buyers the way walnut or ash can. If you're building a VSPC collection and need to start with one SKU, oak natural VSPC is the safe bet for sell-through.

We offer oak natural VSPC in multiple tone ranges — from light natural to medium warm — so you can build a 3-to-5 SKU oak collection that covers the spectrum your downstream customers expect. Each tone uses a different veneer selection and UV coating tint, but the core construction and click-lock profile remain identical across the range. That means your installer uses the same technique regardless of which oak SKU they're laying, and your warehouse doesn't need separate handling procedures.

Market-Specific Species Note

If you're entering a market where walnut or ash has stronger demand — parts of North America and Northern Europe, for instance — we can prioritize those species for your initial order. But for a general-purpose launch, oak is where the volume is.

Light Natural
Pale, airy grain — suits Scandinavian and coastal interiors
Medium Natural
Balanced mid-tone — the broadest market appeal across regions
Medium Warm
Richer amber tone — preferred in Middle East and warmer-climate markets
Why the Same Core Across All Oak Tones Matters for Your Business
  • Installer uses the same click-lock technique regardless of which oak SKU they're laying
  • Warehouse doesn't need separate handling procedures per tone
  • Build a 3-to-5 SKU oak collection that covers the full spectrum your downstream customers expect
  • Each tone uses a different veneer selection and UV coating tint — differentiated look, unified logistics

Building Your Oak Collection

Start with one oak SKU to validate the market, then expand to a 3–5 tone range. Because the core construction and click-lock profile are identical across tones, scaling your collection doesn't add operational complexity.

Distribution & Project Channels

Market Segments Where VSPC Flooring Sells

VSPC earns its margin premium because it solves a real problem in each of these channels — not because it's positioned as a luxury tier. Here's where it moves and why.

Primary Volume Channel

Residential Renovation and New Build Distribution

Distributors · Retail Accounts

Homeowners and interior designers increasingly want real wood floors but balk at the maintenance and moisture limitations of traditional hardwood. VSPC gives your retail or distribution customers a product they can confidently sell for kitchens, basements, and bathrooms — spaces where engineered hardwood is a liability.

Typical Order Pattern

Distributors stocking 5–10 SKUs across oak and walnut, reordering quarterly as their retail accounts pull through inventory.

Price point sits between standard SPC and engineered hardwood — higher per-sqm margin than commodity SPC without the claim risk of hardwood.
VSPC flooring in boutique hotel and restaurant commercial fit-out

Boutique Hospitality and Commercial Fit-Out

Hotels · Restaurants · Co-Working · Retail

Hotels, restaurants, co-working spaces, and retail stores that want a warm, natural aesthetic without the maintenance burden of real hardwood. VSPC handles the foot traffic of light commercial environments while delivering the visual warmth that architects specify.

Typical Order Pattern

Project contractors order 500–3,000 sqm per project, often in a single oak or walnut SKU.

Click-lock installation keeps labor costs predictable — no glue-down, no acclimation period, no moisture testing. Tighter project timelines, fewer change orders.

Premium Rental and Multi-Family Development

Property Developers · Management Companies

Property developers and management companies need flooring that looks high-end to attract tenants but survives turnover without replacement. VSPC's real wood surface photographs well for listings — a genuine competitive advantage over printed SPC in rental markets where online photos drive leasing decisions.

Typical Order Pattern

Developers typically order 2,000–10,000 sqm across a project, with 2–3 SKUs to differentiate unit tiers.

Waterproof SPC core means tenant damage from spills or pet accidents doesn't require full floor replacement.
VSPC flooring in automotive showroom and corporate lobby display environment
200–800 sqm · Repeat Cycle 3–5 yrs

Showroom and Display Environments

Automotive · High-End Retail · Corporate Lobbies

Automotive showrooms, high-end retail, corporate lobbies — spaces where the floor is part of the brand experience. Standard SPC looks like what it is under showroom lighting. VSPC's natural wood grain catches light differently at every angle, the way real hardwood does, because it is real hardwood on the surface.

Typical Order Pattern

Smaller-volume, higher-margin orders — typically 200–800 sqm — but repeat business as brands refresh locations on 3–5 year cycles.

Predictable refresh cycles make showroom accounts reliable repeat buyers, not one-off project orders.

Customization: What You Can Specify, What's Fixed

Every variable below is open for specification. Two elements are non-negotiable — and we'll explain exactly why, so you're not guessing at the reasoning behind the constraint.

Veneer Species

Oak, walnut, ash, hickory, and maple are in our standard library. Other species available on request — we source veneer from approved mills and can procure specialty species for orders above 3,000 sqm.

Non-standard species: +2–3 weeks lead time for veneer procurement

Veneer Tone and Finish

We can adjust the UV coating to shift the tone — lighter, warmer, cooler, or with a matte vs. satin sheen. If you have a target color from a Pantone reference or a competitor sample, send it over and we'll match it within the coating process.

Matte trending in EU & North America; satin remains default for Southeast Asia and Middle East

Plank Dimensions

Standard 1220 × 183mm and wide plank 1500 × 228mm are our production-ready sizes. Custom lengths and widths are possible on orders above 5,000 sqm — the calender and profiling lines need setup adjustment, so smaller runs don't justify the changeover.

Custom dimensions: minimum 5,000 sqm order

Core Thickness

4mm and 5.5mm SPC cores are standard. Thicker cores (up to 6.5mm) available for projects requiring greater rigidity or acoustic performance — the thicker core also allows a thicker attached pad, which improves underfoot comfort and sound absorption.

Thicker core = better acoustic performance and underfoot comfort

Underlayment

IXPE (standard) or EVA (softer feel, slightly higher cost). Cork underlayment available on request for premium positioning or acoustic requirements.

Cork: premium positioning or acoustic specification projects

Click-Lock System

Unilin-type or Valinge-type — specify based on your market's installer familiarity and licensing preferences.

Packaging

Standard export cartons, retail-ready cartons with your branding and UPC codes, or project-pack palletization. We handle private-label packaging design in-house — send us your brand guidelines and we'll produce packaging proofs alongside your floor samples.

What's Fixed — and Why

PUR Adhesive System

The PUR adhesive system for veneer bonding is non-negotiable. We don't offer hot-melt as an option on VSPC because the delamination risk isn't worth the cost savings.

UV Coating Process (6–8 Coats)

The UV coating process is also fixed at 6–8 individual coats. Fewer coats compromise surface durability — this is where the wear performance comes from.

Product Comparison

VSPC vs. WSPC vs. Standard SPC — Choosing the Right Product for Your Market

If you're evaluating our wood veneer SPC flooring range, here's how the three products position against each other.

Dimension VSPC Flooring WSPC Flooring Standard SPC
Surface material 0.6mm sliced natural wood veneer Thicker sawn natural wood veneer Printed décor film (no real wood)
Visual/tactile realism High — real wood grain and texture Highest — deeper grain, refinishable Good with EIR; not real wood
Price positioning Mid-premium Premium Value to mid-range
Moisture performance Waterproof core, sealed veneer surface Waterproof core, sealed veneer surface Fully waterproof
Refinishing potential Limited — thin veneer layer Yes — thicker veneer allows light sanding Not applicable
Best market fit Volume residential, light commercial, rental High-end residential, luxury hospitality General residential, heavy commercial
Typical buyer margin Higher than standard SPC, lower than WSPC Highest in the range Standard

The short version: VSPC is the volume play in the wood veneer SPC category. It delivers genuine wood aesthetics at a price point that works for broad residential distribution, while WSPC targets the premium end where refinishing potential and deeper wood texture justify a higher cost.

If your market doesn't need real wood at all, standard SPC with EIR textures covers the value segment.

Formaldehyde — The Question Veneer Raises

The natural wood veneer surface raises a question that printed SPC doesn't face: formaldehyde emissions from the wood itself and the adhesive system. Our PUR bonding process produces negligible formaldehyde — well below the thresholds that FloorScore and CARB Phase 2 require.

We test every production batch in our formaldehyde chamber and can provide batch-specific test reports for your records.

Logistics & Fulfillment

Packaging, Loading, and Logistics for VSPC Orders

VSPC planks require slightly more packaging care than standard SPC because of the natural wood veneer surface. Here's how we handle every order from carton to container.

Veneer-Safe Carton Packaging

We wrap each carton in PE film and add corner protectors to prevent veneer edge damage during transit. For humid-climate destinations — Middle East, Southeast Asia, parts of Oceania — we add moisture barrier wrapping around each pallet.

We started doing this across all veneer products after a buyer in the Gulf reported minor veneer edge lifting on cartons stored in a non-climate-controlled warehouse for two weeks. The extra wrapping costs almost nothing per carton and eliminates the risk entirely.

Container Loading Capacity

Standard 1220 × 183mm planks in export cartons load approximately:

1,200–1,400
sqm per 20GP
2,800–3,200
sqm per 40HQ

Capacity varies by core thickness and carton configuration. Wide plank formats load slightly less efficiently due to carton dimensions.

Retail-Ready Packaging

If you're distributing through retail channels, we produce cartons with your branding, UPC barcodes, and installation instructions printed directly on the box. Carton dimensions are configurable to match your warehouse racking systems — European buyers often need different dimensions than North American accounts.

Dual-Origin Shipping

The product is identical from either facility — same formulations, same QC protocols, same veneer suppliers. Choose the origin that optimizes your landed cost.

Changzhou, China Shanghai Port

Most efficient for North America and Europe. Established freight lanes and competitive rates to major Western ports.

Rayong, Thailand Thai Origin

Shorter transit times and lower freight rates to Oceania and Southeast Asia. For markets with anti-dumping duties on Chinese-origin flooring, Thai origin changes your landed cost equation.

Minimum Order Quantity

1,000 sqm per SKU for standard oak and walnut VSPC configurations.

Custom species or non-standard dimensions may require higher minimums — we'll confirm when you send your specs.

Calculate Your Landed Cost

Send us your destination port and target volume — we'll quote FOB from whichever facility gives you the best freight and duty combination.

Buyer FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About VSPC Flooring

Questions we hear from distributors, importers, and project buyers before they commit to a VSPC SKU. Straight answers, no hedging.

Can VSPC flooring be installed in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes. The SPC core is 100% waterproof, and the UV-sealed veneer surface resists water penetration from above. Standing water won't damage the core or cause warping. The veneer surface should be wiped dry within a reasonable time — same as any wood-surface floor — but splashes, spills, and typical wet-area exposure are not a concern.

This is one of the key selling points over engineered hardwood: you can confidently place VSPC in moisture-prone spaces where traditional wood floors would be a warranty liability.

How does VSPC flooring compare to engineered hardwood for distribution margins?

VSPC typically lands at a lower per-square-meter cost than engineered hardwood of comparable species and quality, while commanding a similar retail price point because the surface is genuine wood. Your margin per square meter is wider.

More importantly, your claim rate drops — SPC cores don't cup, crown, or gap the way engineered hardwood substrates can in variable humidity environments. Fewer returns and fewer warranty callbacks mean the margin you quote is closer to the margin you keep.

What subfloor preparation does VSPC require?

Click-lock VSPC installs as a floating floor over most hard, flat subfloors — concrete, existing tile, plywood, existing hard flooring. The subfloor needs to be level within 3mm per 2m span. No glue, no nails, no acclimation period.

The pre-attached IXPE or EVA pad handles minor subfloor irregularities and provides acoustic dampening. For your project bids, this means faster installation timelines and lower labor costs compared to glue-down hardwood.

Will the natural wood veneer fade or change color over time?

Natural wood responds to UV light — oak will warm slightly over time, walnut may lighten. This is inherent to real wood and happens with any hardwood floor. Our multi-coat UV finish slows the process significantly compared to unfinished or oil-finished wood.

For retail environments with heavy sun exposure, we recommend specifying our enhanced UV-block coating option. Most residential and commercial installations show minimal visible change within the first 3–5 years.

What is the minimum order quantity for a custom VSPC SKU?

Standard oak and walnut configurations start at 1,000 sqm per SKU. Custom veneer species, non-standard plank dimensions, or specialty finishes may require 3,000–5,000 sqm minimums depending on veneer procurement and line setup requirements.

We ship samples within 7 days from design confirmation, so you can validate the product with your customers before committing to production volume.

Does VSPC flooring work with underfloor heating?

Yes, with standard precautions. The SPC core conducts heat efficiently, and the thin veneer layer doesn't insulate against it the way thick engineered hardwood can. We recommend keeping surface temperature below 28°C and using a gradual warm-up protocol at the start of each heating season.

Our VSPC has been installed over hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems across European and North American projects without issues.

Have a question that's not covered here?

Our technical team works directly with distributors and importers. Send us your spec requirements, target market, or compliance questions — we'll respond with specifics, not a brochure.
